The Little Prince: A Bedtime Story

Listen to this article

Once upon a time, in the vast expanse of the universe, there was a tiny asteroid called B-612. It was so small that only a few grown-ups ever noticed it. But on this little asteroid lived a most extraordinary being¡ªa young boy with golden hair and a heart full of curiosity. He was known as the Little Prince.

The Little Prince lived alone on his asteroid, which was just big enough to hold three volcanoes, one of which was extinct, and a single rose. This rose was unlike any other flower. She was delicate and proud, with thorns to protect herself, she and had a way of speaking that could be both charming and a bit bossy. The Little Prince loved her dearly, watering her every day and shielding her from the cold winds that sometimes blew across his tiny world.

The Little Prince: A Bedtime Story

One night, as he sat beside his rose, gazing at the distant stars, the Little Prince felt a strange longing. He wanted to explore the universe, to see what lay beyond his little asteroid. So, he set off on a journey, carrying with him only a small suitcase and his boundless imagination.

His first stop was a planet where an old king sat on a grand throne. The king wore a magnificent crown and declared himself the ruler of everything he could see. When he saw the Little Prince, he ordered him to sit down and make him feel important. The Little Prince, puzzled but polite, sat down. The king then declared that he had given the Little Prince a command, and thus, he had authority. The Little Prince, however, realized that the king’s power was an illusion, for there was no one else on the planet to command. He thanked the king and continued on his journey.

Next, he visited a planet inhabited by a vain man. This man spent all his time admiring himself in a mirror, hoping that others would admire him too. When the Little Prince arrived, the vain man immediately asked him to clap and cheer, so he could feel admired. The Little Prince did as he was asked, but he couldn’t help but feel that the man’s happiness was empty. He left the planet, thinking that true admiration should come from within.

The Little Prince’s journey continued, and he met many strange and interesting people. There was a drunkard who drank to forget that he was ashamed of drinking, and a businessman who counted the stars, believing he owned them. But none of these encounters brought him the sense of belonging he sought.

Finally, he arrived on Earth. It was a planet unlike any other, filled with mountains, oceans, and countless people. The Little Prince landed in a desert, where he met a wise fox. The fox was curious about the Little Prince and asked him why he was there. The Little Prince explained that he was looking for friends and understanding. The fox then taught him the most important lesson of all: “You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.” The Little Prince realized that his rose, with all her quirks and demands, was precious to him because he had tamed her and she had tamed him.

With this newfound wisdom, the Little Prince decided to return to his asteroid. He knew that his rose needed him, and he needed her. As he traveled back through the stars, he felt a deep sense of peace. He had discovered that the most important things in life are not found in grand adventures or in meeting many people, but in the simple, everyday moments shared with those we love.

When he finally returned to B-612, the Little Prince found his rose waiting for him. She was a bit wilted from his absence, but she smiled when she saw him. He watered her gently and sat beside her, feeling content. The stars twinkled above, and the Little Prince knew that his journey had taught him the true meaning of friendship, love, and responsibility.

And so, the Little Prince and his rose lived happily together on their tiny asteroid, knowing that even in the vastness of the universe, the smallest things can hold the greatest treasures. And every night, as he lay down to sleep, he would look up at the stars and smile, grateful for the lessons he had learned and the love he had found.

The end.
