The Little Engine That Could: A Bedtime Story

Listen to this article

Once upon a time, in a land filled with rolling hills and winding tracks, there was a little blue engine. This engine was small and round, with shiny metal and a friendly face. It had a whistle that went “Toot! Toot!” and it loved to chug along the tracks, pulling a train of colorful cars behind it. The little engine was always happy, but it had a big heart and a strong desire to help others.

One sunny morning, as the little engine was chugging along, it heard a sound. It was a cry for help. The engine stopped and looked around. There, on the tracks ahead, was a long train of cars. They were filled with toys, candy, and gifts for the children in the town far away. But the train was stuck. The engine that was supposed to pull it had broken down, and now the train was stranded.

The Little Engine That Could: A Bedtime Story

The little engine knew it had to help. It rolled up to the train and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“We need an engine to pull us over the mountain,” replied the train. “We have to get to the children in time for their celebration, but we can’t move without a strong engine.”

The little engine looked at the long train and then at the towering mountain ahead. It knew it was small, but it also knew it had to try. “I think I can,” it said, puffing up its chest. “I think I can.”

The little engine hooked itself up to the train and began to chug. It was a tough job. The tracks were steep, and the train was heavy. The little engine’s wheels spun, and its whistle blew, but it kept going. “I think I can, I think I can,” it chanted, pushing itself harder and harder.

As the little engine climbed higher and higher, it began to feel tired. The wind blew hard against it, and the tracks seemed to stretch on forever. But the little engine didn’t give up. It kept thinking of the children waiting for their gifts and the joy it would bring them. “I think I can, I think I can,” it kept saying, even when it felt like it couldn’t go on.

Finally, the little engine reached the top of the mountain. It was exhausted, but it had made it. The view from the top was breathtaking. The little engine looked down at the town below, where the children were waiting with excited smiles. It knew it had done something amazing.

With a deep breath, the little engine began to chug down the other side of the mountain. The train followed, and soon they were rolling into the town. The children cheered and clapped as the train pulled into the station. They were so happy to see the toys, candy, and gifts that the little engine had brought them.

The little engine felt proud and happy. It had proven that even the smallest engine could do great things if it believed in itself. The children surrounded the little engine, thanking it for bringing them their gifts. The engine smiled and tooted its whistle. “I thought I could, I thought I could,” it said, feeling proud and content.

From that day on, the little engine was known as the bravest and most determined engine in the land. It continued to chug along the tracks, always ready to help others and never forgetting the power of believing in itself.

And so, my dear, remember the little engine’s story. No matter how small you feel, you can achieve great things if you believe in yourself and keep trying. Now, close your eyes and dream of the adventures you can have, just like the little engine that could.
